2 military losses: Battle of Gallipoli. On April 24th, 1915 British, French, Australian, and New Zealand troops began landing on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli. Wanted to knock Turkey, out of the war.The Gallipoli landing was a disaster caused by inadequate intelligence, insufficient attention to the terrain, an underestimation of the enemy's strength and resilience in defense of their native soil.
Battle of the Somme. In 1916, one hundred and twenty-five miles northwest of Verdun, the British and French armies joined at the Somme River. British General ordered a massive bombardment of the German lines that would last a week and could be heard across the Channel in England. But the German troops were deeply dug in and the bombardment did not reach them. It was the worst battle for deaths and casualties in British military. Eventually this battle, which did not change the front line trenches much at all, but instead caused alot of death and casualties.
Ending point of war: By 1917 both sides were fighting a defensive war. Neither side could pull of a massive attack. This led to many deaths with no progress. The Paris Peace Conference represented the US, Great Britain, Italy, and France. Each big power got control and Great Britain remained control of the balance of power. The Treaty of Versailles began in January 1919. David Llyod dominated the preceding and pushed vengeful electorates to make harsh demands of adversaries. These harsh demands were focused toward Germany causing tension leading into WWII.
Things gained from the war: Great Britain gained political control and power. Great Britain also gained respect from other countries.
Things lost in the war: Great Britain lost alot of causalities and the war resulted in alot of unnecessary death made by poor decisions
Total life loss: Military- 10 million
Civilian- 7 million
